  1. "Much education today is monumentally ineffective. All too often we are giving young people cut flowers when we should be teaching them to grow their own plants." -- John Gardner

I remember the Direct Instruction (DI) program that everything scripted. Teachers and students are to follow the scripted program. In the DI program students are awaiting for the teacher to gives the signal to response. However, they have limited opportunity to develop their critical thinking skill to go around the lesson or explore new ideas. As parents we used to spoon-feed our youngest when they are unable to feed themselves. When they grow up they have to feed themselves. A smart and caring teacher should dissimulate information to the students and help them think and learn it for life but not spoon feeding them by telling them what to do and giving them the answer of the problem. Teachers need to prepare students to become good thinker. Critical thinking skill is what needed for our students to become our future leader. We cannot move forward if we do not prepare our children and youths for employment opportunities.

    1. Critical thinking skills are important to make appropriate choices. Children need these same skills in problem-solving situations as well which will carry on in their life.

  3. “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

I like this quote because learning takes more than a life time and knowledge lives forever.

  4. The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.
    Tom Bodett

As part of my teaching, my goal is to ensure that students meet the grade level standards and expectations as dictated by the school’s objectives and curriculum. It is also part of my teaching philosophy that I prepare my students to be lifelong learners in a global and technological world. It is my hope that infused in my classroom instruction; I will impart life skills, values and lessons that they will use in their lifetime.
